Kirk Garratt named medical director of Center for Heart & Vascular Health
Kirk N. Garratt, M.Sc, M.D., has
been appointed medical director of Christiana Care Health System’s Center for Heart & Vascular Health. Dr. Garratt succeeds Timothy J. Gardner, M.D., who retired after 12 years of dedication
to Christiana Care and the Delaware community.
“Dr. Garratt is a widely-respected
leader for his contributions to the field of heart health,” said Janice E. Nevin, M.D., MPH, president
and CEO of Christiana Care. “He is deeply committed to preventing cardiovascular disease in our community through screenings and education, and to ensuring that patients at Christiana Care receive exceptional heart and vascular care that is safest and of the highest quality.”
Renowned in the field of heart disease for his achievements in the clinical, academic and research aspects of interventional cardiology, Dr. Garratt joined Christiana Care in 2015. He served as associate service line leader of Christiana Care’s Heart and Vascular Service Line and was appointed in 2016 as Christiana Care’s John H. Ammon Chief of Cardiology.
Dr. Garratt came to Christiana Care from Northwell (formerly Northshore-LIJ) Health System, where he served as director of
cardiac intervention, cardiovascular research, the interventional cardiovascular fellowship program and associate chair of cardiovascular medicine. Prior to that Dr. Garratt spent 17 years at the Mayo Clinic and was a member of the team of physicians who first performed minimally invasive heart procedures there.
Dr. Garratt is the president of The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, which promotes excellence in invasive and interventional cardiovascular medicine through education and representation, and the advancement of quality standards to enhance patient care.
Dr. Garratt serves on medical advisory boards, task forces and steering committees and presents at conferences and symposiums worldwide. He has participated in clinical research for more than 30 years, authored more than 300 publications and is a reviewer and editor for multiple medical journals.
“Since joining our organization two years ago, Dr. Garratt has spearheaded the development of a number of innovations that have improved patient outcomes,” said Kert F. Anzilotti, M.D., MBA, chief medical officer of Acute Care at Christiana Care. “He is equally passionate about helping patients with heart disease return to health and to helping the public learn how to reduce their risk of heart disease.” n

Eric V. Jackson Jr. named executive director of Christiana Care Value Institute
Eric V. Jackson Jr., M.D., MBA, has been appointed executive director of the Christiana Care Value Institute, succeeding Timothy J. Gardner, M.D.
Dr. Jackson joined Christiana Care in 2012 to help launch the Value Institute. As associate director, he has overseen the integration of clinically connected pragmatic implementation science for all the service lines within Christiana
Care. He also is director of the Center for Health Care Delivery Science within the Value Institute.
Under his leadership, the Value Institute has attained national recognition, received more than $20 million in grant funding and published more than 170 articles. The Value Institute also has assisted with major projects within the health system, including
making recommendations about optimal workflow design in Christiana Care’s new $250 million Women’s and Children’s Tower, using electronic health records and nursing assessment to redesign clinical early warning systems and improving systems of care for vulnerable patient populations.
Dr. Jackson serves as an adviser to several prestigious medical societies including the National Academy of Medicine, the Society for Pediatric Anesthesiology, and the G4 Alliance, an international advocacy group for safe surgery. He is on the editorial board for the American Journal of Medical Quality.
Dr. Jackson completed his residency and fellowship training at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore, Maryland, where he served as a pediatric anesthesiologist, assistant professor and director of the Center for Immersive Simulation and Telemedicine in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. 
