100 dancers and more than 90 screenings at dance event for the Hispanic community
Drums and catchy music drew throngs of people to a health- and healthy-living themed event targeting the Hispanic community for an afternoon of exercise and free health screenings.
This is the second year that Christiana Care’s Community Health team, in partnership with the Department of External Affairs, has hosted the event, Corazón Latino: ¡A bailar!
Approximately 100 people kept the beat going for the special event the event in the auditorium at the John H. Ammon Medical
Education Center – a slight increase from 2018 and a sign that interest is increasing. Ninety-two people received screenings for blood pressure, body mass index and diabetes.
This event was organized with help and volunteers from Christiana Care Language Services and the Outreach Program Promotoras from the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute.
“Our initiative is to open our doors to the Hispanic community and encourage them to learn about all the services that Christiana Care has to offer,” said Carla Aponte, manager of Community Health Operations.
“With this event we are trying to show our neighbors that dancing is a form of exercise and movement. It’s something that is in our blood, we do it instinctively and, combined with a healthy diet, it can greatly positively impact your health.“ 
