     B E S T P R A C T I C E R E V I E W : Find It ... Fix It . Cardboard Storage Boxes
  Q. Can I use corrugated cardboard boxes to store supplies in our clean supply room?
A. NO. Corrugated cardboard boxes cannot be used for storage in clean/sterile supply rooms or in patient care areas.
Q. Why can’t the original cardboard shipping box be used to store supplies?
A. Packing boxes/corrugated boxes are exposed to dirt, dust, moisture, water, vermin and bacteria from warehouses, transportation environments and loading docks. They cannot be cleaned or disinfected. Corrugated cardboard is known to serve as a reservoir for silverfish, roaches, termites and other pests.
Q. What should I do if my patient care supplies arrive to my department in a cardboard shipping box?
A. Remove the items from the box and store on shelving unit or in a plastic bin. Any instructions for use accompanying the items should be kept with the items.
Q. Can office supplies be stored in a cardboard box?
A. The Supply Storage policy addresses all supplies stored in clean medical supply rooms and patient care areas, not office supplies stored in offices. 
