CareChex is a medical quality rating system that incorporates a detailed evaluation of clinical outcomes, patient safety indicators and risk-adjusted measures of mortality, complications and all-site readmissions, among other measures, to grade hospitals.
According to CareChex, medical excellence is an overall measure of quality for the hospital or health system and encompasses performance across risk- adjusted mortality rates, risk-adjusted complication rates, U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ) inpatient quality indicators, AHRQ patient safety indicators, core measures and Hospital Consumer Assessment
of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient satisfaction scores.
Patient Safety is based on patient safety performance derived from the AHRQ’s patient safety indicators, according to CareChex.
Christiana Care also was ranked as the No. 1 hospital in the region in medical excellence for major orthopaedic surgery, neurological care and stroke care. Delaware is considered part of the South Region, which includes 13 Southern states and the District of Columbia.
