Quality & Safety | Among nation’s elite in
neurological and stroke care
Impressive collaboration by interdisciplin- ary stroke team colleagues help Christiana Care shave as many as 10 minutes off of the nationally recommended door-to-needle standard for stroke treatment. Consultation and critical care transport among hospitals in all three Delaware counties ensure that patients who suffer stroke anywhere in Delaware receive optimal care.
“Christiana Care is a leading provider
of neurological and stroke care across
the nation, and really the best place you can go if you need that care,” said Dr. Anzilotti, who helped lead Christiana Care’s stroke program toward national acclaim. “We have a team of great nurses, great physicians, great support staff, and extremely talented specialists all with a passion and vision to provide state-of-the- art stroke care every time, to every patient.”
Christiana Care is recognized by the American Heart Association with Gold Plus and Target: Stroke Honor Role
Elite Plus designations, the two highest awards offered for acute stroke care, and holds Joint Commission designation as a Comprehensive Stroke Center with the most advanced level of expertise.
Recognition as a nationally acclaimed neurosciences program is the culmination of a decade-long collaborative and multidisciplinary journey.
Recognition as a nationally acclaimed neurosciences program is the culmination of a decade-long collaborative and multidisciplinary journey for Christiana Care that includes new state-of-the-
art facilities, groundbreaking clinical capabilities and the recruitment of nationally renowned neuroscience experts.
Valerie Dechant, M.D., Neurosciences Service Line leader, said the team constantly looks for opportunities to reduce unnecessary variation in care and stay up-to-date on best practices. For example, Christiana Care is the only Delaware
health system to offer intra-arterial
treatment for acute stroke, in which neuro- interventionalists feed a catheter through an artery from the leg to the brain in the height of the stroke to mechanically remove a clot. The technique saves lives, preserves brain tissue and reduces complications.
Christiana Care’s constant desire to improve is assurance for Delaware patients and their families that there is no need go elsewhere for stroke or neurological care.
“Christiana Care provides the highest quality neurological care to our neighbors right in their own community,” said Dr.Dechant. CONTINUED
