| Quality & Safety According to the independent quality rating system CareChex, Christiana Care ranks No. 1 in the nation
in neurological, stroke, pneumonia and trauma care. What does it take to reach No. 1?
Exceptional today, even better tomorrow
A systemwide pursuit of continuous improvement and national leadership
in clinical outcomes, patient safety and patient experience earned Christiana
Care Health System top honors in several categories in CareChex, a leading consumer listing that compares quality and safety of care offered by hospitals across the country.
Christiana Care ranks No. 1 in the nation for medical excellence in neurological and stroke care and No. 1 for patient safety
in pneumonia and trauma care in the CareChex 2018 Quality Rating System.
CareChex also recognizes Christiana Care for medical excellence and patient safety honors in numerous categories, including placement among the nation’s top 10 percent in medical excellence for overall hospital and surgical care, cardiac care and heart attack treatment, gall bladder removal, gastrointestinal care and general
surgery. Christiana Care is No. 3 in the nation and tops in the region for medical excellence in major orthopaedic surgery, and No. 4 on the patient safety category for hip fracture care.
“When our extraordinary people at Christiana Care come together to solve a problem or make an improvement, not only do we achieve what we set out to do — we often win an award in the process,” said Janice E. Nevin, M.D., MPH, president and CEO of Christiana Care. “The work that goes into achieving this level of quality
and safety includes many highly skilled people, working together, making many improvements large and small — and
always guided by a determination to get
it right every time, for every patient we serve. For our patients and for each other, we commit to being exceptional today and even better tomorrow.”
CareChex, an information service of Quantros, Inc., analyzes
data from the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
and the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Its methodology evaluates performance across different clinical processes, care outcomes and patient satisfaction measures. The updated rankings benchmark the clinical quality, patient safety and patient satisfaction performance of virtually all acute care hospitals and health systems throughout the nation. CareChex ratings are expressed as a Composite Quality Score based on
a series of outcomes of care measures
and indicators, including actual rates
of mortality, complications, all-site readmissions, inpatient quality and patient safety. Online searches filtered by clinical area and state or metro area help consumers identify superior value for their health care expenditures.
According to Kert Anzilotti, M.D., MBA, chief medical officer, acute care, Christiana Care’s rise to the top of the list for quality and safety in so many clinical categories underscores what a valuable asset Christiana Care is to the community.
“This is great news in Delaware health care,” he said. C O N T I N U E D
