                    Gerard J. Fulda named Master of Critical Care Medicine
Gerard J. Fulda, M.D., MHCDS, MCCM, FACS, FCCP, chair of Christiana Care’s Department of Surgery since 2014, has been named a Master of Critical Care Medicine by the American College of Critical Care Medicine of the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM).
One of only 88 Masters of Critical Care Medicine in
the world, Dr. Fulda is honored for international professional prominence with exceptional character, leadership, eminence in clinical practice, outstanding
contributions to research and education in critical care medicine.
Dr. Fulda is board certified
in general surgery, surgical critical care and neurocritical care. While director of Surgical Critical Care at Christiana Care, he developed the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship program, which has graduated 25 surgical critical care fellows to date. Currently, he is chair of the Department of Surgery, physician leader of the Surgical Service Line, and chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee at Christiana Care.
He is a member of the Delaware State Trauma Center Designation Committee. His leadership and academic guidance have been instrumental in achieving impressive accolades, including the Ernest Amory Codman Award from the Joint Commission and the Charles W. Serby Research Award from the American Respiratory Care Foundation.
Dr. Fulda has served as chancellor of the Board of Regents for the College of Critical Medicine. He is past chair of the Surgical Section for SCCM, a five-time recipient of its Presidential Citation Award for outstanding contributions and a Distinguished Service awardee for exceptional leadership in the organization.

After graduating from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Dr. Fulda completed a general surgery residency at the Medical Center of Delaware and a fellowship in surgical critical care and traumatology at the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (Shock Trauma Center) in 1989. He received a Master of Health Care Delivery Science from Dartmouth College in 2016. He is an associate professor of surgery at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. He is
the author of more than 50 articles published in peer-reviewed journals, as well as webinars, numerous abstracts, editorials and book chapters. 
