The new benefit offers full-time, full-time flex and part-time caregivers who have completed 90 days of service up to eight hours of paid time off each year to participate in volunteer activities. These hours are separate and in addition to accrued paid time off hours.
“Guided by our values of Excellence and Love, the Community Service Benefit is
consistent with our commitment to
anticipate the needs of others and
help with compassion and gener-
osity,” said Christopher J. Cowan,
M.Ed., FABC, senior vice president
of Human Resources. “By serving
together and partnering with our neighbors in need, we can make a positive impact in many areas of our community.
“This new benefit also reinforces Christiana Care as a great place to work,” said Cowan.
Christiana Care was recognized as one of the Top Workplaces in Delaware for the 15th consecutive year in 2018, according to an annual survey conducted by The News Journal. Christiana Care this year also was the first health system in Delaware to announce it is benefiting its workforce by increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour, effective February 1. 
Forbes Magazine ranks Christiana Care #1 employer in Delaware
Forbes magazine ranks Christiana Care the #1 Employer in Delaware in its inaugural list of “America’s Best Employers by state.”
“It’s an honor to earn this recognition by Forbes as the best employer in the state,” said Chief People Officer Neil Jasani, M.D., MBA, FACEP. “At Christiana Care, we serve together, guided by our values of excellence and love. Our caregivers bring those
values to life every day, as they deliver on our mission of service to our community. This is truly a great place to work.”
According to Forbes, the rankings are based on responses to an indepen- dent survey from a sample of more than 80,000 employees across the U.S.
Forbes partnered with a market research company to conduct the study.
Employees were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their current employers to friends and family and to evaluate other employers in their respective industries.
Further, survey participants were asked 35 work-related questions about their current employer that included working conditions, potential for development and company image.
The surveys were administered in a series of anonymous online panels and provide a representative sample of the U.S. workforce, according to Forbes.
The Forbes recognition is the latest in a string of top-workplace awards that Christiana Care has earned. Christiana Care was ranked for the first time as a best employer in the Philadelphia region this year in the Philadelphia Inquirer’s 2019 Top Workplaces survey. In 2018, Christiana Care was recognized as one of the Top Workplaces in Delaware for the 15th consecutive year, in a News Journal survey. 
