CRISPR Gene Editing 360:
From Laboratory Science to Ethical Application 9 – 11 a.m., John H. Ammon Medical Education Center
This symposium will bring together a group of nationally and internationally recognized experts to explore the scientific, medical, ethical, legal and financial aspects of gene editing — from a 360-degree perspective. An opening presentation by each of the speakers will be followed by a panel discussion and questions and answers.
Keynote Speakers will include Eric Kmiec, Ph.D., director of the Gene Editing Institute of Christiana Care’s Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute; Bob Oakes, Esq., principal in the Delaware Office of law firm Fish and Richardson; Debra J. H. Mathews, Ph.D., MA, assistant director for Science Programs for the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics and associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; Edmund Pezalla, M.D., MPH, Ph.D.. Founder and CEO of Enlightenment Bioconsult. The moderator will be Mark Greene, Ph.D., research director at the Center for Science, Ethics & Public Policy at the University of Delaware.

• Cancer awareness, education and screening information for Colorectal, Prostate, Skin and Lung cancer along with smoking cessation resources.
• Christiana Care Health Ambassadors offer resources and tips on raising a healthy family.
• Christiana Care Health Guides answer questions about health insurance and health resources.
• Latin American Community Center will highlight Stand by Me, HIV awareness and substance abuse prevention.
• Division of Public Health provides information on health services for New Castle County residents.

Boot Camp for New Dads
9 a.m. – noon, Wilmington Hospital Annex, Room 100
Boot Camp for New Dads (aka Daddy Boot Camp) is a unique father-to-father community-based workshop that inspires and equips men of different economic levels, ages and cultures to become confidently engaged with their infants, support their mates and personally navigate their transformation into dads.
We are looking for “rookie” dads who are either expecting children or have children under the age of 6 months. These dads will have the chance to interact with experienced fathers and ask questions and express their concerns about fatherhood while gaining hands-on practice. Nominations for the Christiana Care Medical-Dental Staff
annual Commendation for Excellence are due
The Commendation for Excellence honors current and former members of the Medical-Dental Staff who have made exceptional contributions to the community through their clinical, scholarly, educational or humanitarian activities. Medical- Dental Staff members can nominate an eligible Physician or Dentist for the award. Nominations require:
1. Letter outlining the reasons for the nomination. 2. Qualifications of the nominee.
3. The nominee’s curriculum vitae.
The Medical Executive Committee endorses the physician or dentist selected by the awards committee. The physician or dentist endorsed receives the Commendation for Excellence at the Medical-Dental Staff annual event on Nov. 2, 2018.
