Christiana Care Nursing adopts new professional practice model, mission and vision statements, governance structure and strategic plan
Clinical nurses key in reshaping nursing professional practice to advance exemplary care
As one of the leading academic health systems in the U.S., Christiana Care Health System
attracts nurses who impact health with excellent, evidence-based clinical skills, valuable leadership experience, innovative approaches and technologies, and strategic partnerships — one patient and family member at a time.
To further advance the exemplary nursing that is a hallmark of Christiana Care, clinical nurses from service lines and work areas across the health system have collaborated on important tools to align nursing practice at the health system.
Developed by and for nurses, a Department of Nursing strategic plan, mission and vision statements,
a redesigned nursing professional governance structure and a re-envisioned professional practice model guide what it means to be a twice-designated Magnet nurse driving the delivery of exceptional patient care. Magnet designation from The American Nurses Credentialing Center is the highest and most prestigious credential a health care organization can achieve for nursing excellence and quality patient care.
“Being part of the task force to create
the new professional practice model
has enlightened me, allowing me to be involved in something that exemplifies being a truly exceptional nurse,” said Lauren Barone, MSN, RN, OCN, LNCC, one of the 13 task force members. “It
is empowering to be part of a nurse-
driven process that is going to stay with Christiana Care for a very long time.”
Barone, who is a research nurse coordi- nator with the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute and mem- ber of the Professional Nurse Council, was among several task force members representing nurses in ambulatory roles throughout Christiana Care.
For patients, this work will result in improved care delivery from a team of expert, clinical nurses who are profes- sionally aligned and empowered with the opportunity to do their best work.
