Retired teacher funds First State School field trip to National Museum of African American History & Culture
Twenty-three students from the First State School traveled to the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., in October with financial support from Don and Delores Blakey of Dover. Mrs. Blakey, a retired teacher from Caesar Rodney School District, first became involved with the First State School when English teacher Karen Rabik invited her to share her talents as an actress portraying Harriett Tubman, the American abolitionist, humanitarian, scout and spy for the United States Army during the American Civil War. After learning that
the students were interested in a field trip to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture, she and her husband generously offered to fund the trip. ●

Eugene du Pont Preventive Medicine & Rehabilitation Institute begins renovation
To better meet the health care needs of the community, Christiana Care Health System is making improvements to its Eugene du Pont Preventive Medicine & Rehabilitation Institute (PMRI). Renovations at PMRI began in November and are expected to be completed in late 2018. For safety and efficiency, PMRI will be closed for the duration of the renovation.
When PMRI reopens, Christiana Care will offer expanded services in primary care, women’s health, cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation, as well as current laboratory services, nutrition services, physical therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation, and the Camp FRESH youth program. ●
