Varadarajan Subbiah, M.D., Named Chief Clinical Effectiveness Officer

Experienced physician will lead quality and patient safety program to eliminate preventable patient harm and transform delivery of care

Varadarajan Subbiah, M.D., MBA, FACP, CHCQM, has been appointed ChristianaCare’s chief clinical effectiveness officer. An experienced physician leader, Subbiah has served as vice president, Utilization Management and Quality, since February 2020.

As chief clinical effectiveness officer, Subbiah will provide medical leadership and oversee the Clinical Effectiveness Program. He will lead the quality and patient safety program to eliminate preventable patient harm and transform the delivery of care across the continuum.

He led resource utilization strategies supporting high quality, efficient and effective care delivery. He also served as the physician lead for data analysis and strategy development to ensure optimal performance in the areas of clinical quality and external reporting.

Subbiah previously served as medical director of Patient Access and Flow for ChristianaCare and as chief medical officer of Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, California.

Subbiah earned his medical degree at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He completed an internal medicine residency at Temple University Hospital. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a bachelor’s degree in cellular and molecular biology from the University of Michigan.

Subbiah is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is board certified in internal medicine and holds a certification in health care quality and management.

Subbiah reports to Kert Anzilotti, MD, MBA, FACR, president of the Medical Group of ChristianaCare and system chief medical officer.
