ChristianaCare recognized with the highest distinction in 14 procedures and conditions and 3 specialties

ChristianaCare has been named by U.S. News & World Report to its 2025-2026 Best Hospitals as a High Performing hospital for 14 conditions and three procedures. High Performing is the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings. The recognition encompasses both of ChristianaCare’s Delaware hospitals—Wilmington Hospital and Christiana Hospital.

ChristianaCare is also ranked as the No. 1 hospital in Delaware and tied for the No. 3 hospital in the greater Philadelphia region, which is home to more than 80 hospitals.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report for providing some of the best care in the nation,” said Kert Anzilotti, M.D., MBA, FACR, system chief medical officer and president of the Medical Group at ChristianaCare. “This accolade is a true testament to the dedication and skill of our caregivers, who come together each day to deliver safe, high-quality care for our patients.”

U.S. News evaluated more than 4,400 hospitals across 15 adult specialties and 22 procedures and conditions; only 13% of evaluated hospitals earned a Best Hospitals designation.

ChristianaCare was ranked as High Performing in care for these procedures and conditions:

• Aortic valve surgery
• Back surgery (spinal fusion)
• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
• Colon cancer surgery
• Gynecological cancer surgery
• Heart bypass surgery
• Heart failure
• Hip fracture
• Hip replacement
• Knee replacement
• Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma
• Lung cancer surgery
• Prostate cancer surgery
• Stroke

ChristianaCare was ranked as High Performing in these specialties:

• Gastroenterology and GI Surgery
• Orthopedics.
• Urology.

“For more than three decades, U.S. News has been an invaluable guide for patients,” said Managing Editor and Chief of Health Analysis Ben Harder at U.S. News. “With a ‘Best Hospital’ recognition, Americans, in consultation with their medical providers, can confidently choose a regional hospital known for providing superior care for their specific illness or condition.”

Methodology

To determine the Best Hospitals, U.S. News analyzed each hospital’s performance based on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals Specialty rankings methodology and Procedures & Conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from over 800 million records of patient care.

This U.S. News and World Report recognition comes on the heels of multiple other recent quality and safety awards that ChristianaCare has received, including:

• ChristianaCare was recognized as one of the best hospitals in the nation by Money in its 2025 hospital rankings, making it the only hospital in Delaware to achieve this distinction.
• ChristianaCare is ranked by Newsweek among the World’s Best Hospitals.
• ChristianaCare earned the Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) for three of its intensive care units: the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), the Surgical Critical Care Complex (SCCC), and the Transitional Surgical Unit (TSU) at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware.
• ChristianaCare is the only four-time Magnet-designated health care organization in Delaware, recognized for continued dedication to excellence and innovation, high-quality patient care and experience, nurse engagement and work culture.
