WHERE: Christiana Hospital, 4755 Ogletown-Stanton Rd., Newark, DE

WHO: Media Tours will be led by:

  • Kirk Garratt, MSc, M.D., MSCAI, FACC, Medical Director, Center for Heart and Vascular Health, John H. Ammon Chair, Cardiology
  • Leslie Mulshenock, Corporate Director, Center for Heart and Vascular Health

WHY: Recognized among the best in heart and vascular medicine, the Christiana Care Center for Heart & Vascular Health is one of the largest, most capable regional heart centers on the East Coast, and the only center in the region that integrates cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, vascular interventional radiology, cardiology and interventional nephrology in a single location and under one roof.

The addition of the Hybrid Operating Room offers state-of-the-art technology for use in minimally invasive structural heart procedures, which are the future path for treating heart conditions less invasively, reducing the risk of complications, length of hospital stay and patient recovery time. Hybrid operating rooms combine all the traditional elements of an operating room with the advanced imaging capabilities of an interventional suite and provide operators the flexibility to seamlessly transition between surgical and catheter-based treatments during the same procedure, eliminating the need to move a patient or schedule multiple procedures to address a patient’s complex needs. It will also support innovative hybrid, robotic and other advanced surgeries.
