ChristianaCare ranked as top employer for second consecutive year

Forbes, the popular American business magazine, has ranked ChristianaCare as the No. 1 employer in the State of Delaware in its second annual list of America’s best employers by state. ChristianaCare also was ranked the No. 1 employer in Delaware in 2019.
“This honor from Forbes is all the more meaningful as our caregivers have courageously served together to help each other and our patients during this COVID-19 pandemic,” said Chief People Officer Neil Jasani, M.D., MBA, FACEP. “Our caregivers bring our values of love and excellence to life every day, and we actively listen to our caregivers to ensure that we can provide them with the resources they need to help themselves and our community achieve optimal health.”
The Forbes recognition comes on the heels of ChristianaCare’s 16th consecutive annual ranking as one of the Top Workplaces in the First State by the Delaware News Journal
During the pandemic, ChristianaCare has gained national recognition for its success in caring for its employees, which the organization refers to as “caregivers.” That recognition included a Sunday front-page feature story in The New York Times in May about ChristianaCare’s Center for WorkLife Wellbeing, an organizational resource that enables employees to receive peer support and provides a safe space for them to process their stressors, fears and concerns related to caring for COVID-19 patients. While the Center for WorkLife Wellbeing was created in 2016, its work throughout the pandemic has been vital to ChristianaCare’s success in supporting its caregivers.
Other support that ChristianaCare has provided to its caregivers during the pandemic includes:
- A designated COVID-19 testing center for caregivers.
- A COVID-19 Caregiver Relief Fund that provided temporary relief for caregivers experiencing unavoidable financial hardship as a result of the pandemic through community charitable contributions.
- 24/7 mental health services and an Employee Assistance Program with specialists who helped solve everyday issues and coordinated employee needs.
- Pre-paid childcare services.
- Pre-paid hotel rooms for caregivers who need to self-isolate so they don’t have to travel home.
Forbes partnered with Statista Inc., a global market research and consumer data company, to develop the ranking of best places to work. To determine the list, Statista surveyed 80,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 500 employees. All the surveys were anonymous, allowing participants to openly share their opinions.
The respondents were asked to rate their employers on a variety of criteria, including:
- Safety of work environment.
- Competitiveness of compensation.
- Opportunities for advancement.
- Openness to telecommuting.
Statista subsequently asked respondents how likely they’d be to recommend their employer to others, and to nominate organizations in industries outside their own. The number of businesses ranked in Delaware was dependent on two factors, the number of qualifying employers and the size of the state’s workforce.
