Connected World – a business and technology magazine that reports on industry trends – has selected ChristianaCare Chief Virtual Health Officer Sharon Anderson, RN, MS, FACHE, as a 2021 Women of Technology winner.

Anderson is one of 43 awardees chosen because they “bring a unique lens to their respective companies” that helps “push innovation forward.”

Through our Center for Virtual Health, we are making that vision a reality and transforming care to be more effective, equitable and affordable, powered by data and technology.”

As the leader of the Center for Virtual Health, Anderson guides a multidisciplinary team that includes clinicians and experts in data and technology to design and deliver virtual acute and ambulatory care, including centralized monitoring and connection points throughout the community to make care accessible, equitable and convenient. For example, one of the Center for Virtual Health’s most recent innovations is a new site that provides leading-edge virtual primary care at Kingswood Community Center, in one of the city of Wilmington’s historically most underserved, predominantly Black communities.

In 2015, Anderson led the development of ChristianaCare’s award-winning CareVio data-powered population health care management program, starting with five employees using predictive analytics to care for 3,000 patients. Today, 95 interdisciplinary team members monitor real-time data from three health information exchanges to coordinate care for more than 110,000 patients through approximately 5,000 video visits and 900,000 follow-up text messages.

During the pandemic, she helped ChristianaCare create a COVID-19 monitoring practice – powered by CareVio – for those diagnosed with COVID-19 or awaiting test results. She is also the visionary behind an innovative COVID-19 virtual employee monitoring program that has helped 37 companies in 14 states safely reopen by protecting more than 10,000 employees with daily symptom monitoring, testing and connections to care.

Outside of her main responsibilities, Anderson embraces the opportunities to mentor women by empowering them to lead, explore and innovate. Her approach is to inspire her team to challenge assumptions and help create solutions.

This marks the second consecutive year a ChristianaCare caregiver has won this award. Janice Nevin, M.D., MPH, president and CEO of ChristianaCare, was recognized as a Women of Technology winner in 2020.
