ChristianaCare is pleased to announce a new board chair and vice chair, as well as the appointment of new board members who will help to guide the health system’s future vitality and success in making a positive impact on health in the communities it serves.

Nicholas M. Marsini, Jr. will now serve as board chair with George Foutrakis moving into the vice chair role.

A longtime community leader, Marsini joined the health system’s board five years ago. During his time on the board, he has been vice chair of the board, chaired the board’s Finance Committee and served on several other committees.

“ChristianaCare has long held a special place in my heart as the place where both my sons were born. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the system and its caregivers as board chair,” Marsini said. “I have seen ChristianaCare grow over the years into a leading, national-level medical center while still being firmly rooted in serving our neighbors in Delaware and the surrounding states. We are positioned for growth and success with initiatives that will be game changers for the way health is delivered regionally. I am excited to lead the board and collaborate more closely with President and CEO Dr. Janice Nevin on that important work.”

After 39 years with PNC Financial Corp, Marsini retired in 2016. Over those four decades, he held a variety of executive roles, including president of PNC Bank Delaware (2011-2016), executive vice president and chief financial officer of PNC Global Investment Servicing (1997-2010) and director of finance of PNC Financial Corp (1993-1997).

A commitment to the places that helped shape him has led Marsini to serve multiple alma maters in Delaware, chairing the board of Salesianum School in Wilmington and being a member of the University of Delaware Audit Committee. He is also a chair of the board of Fund Vantage Series Trust and Third Avenue Trust along with serving as a trustee and audit committee chair of Brinker Capital Destination Trust.

Marsini succeeds Doneene K. Damon as chair of ChristianaCare’s board. Damon led the board from 2016 to 2021, guiding the system through significant growth, including integrating with Union Hospital, opening the Center for Women’s and Children’s Health, partnering with Highmark on multiple ventures and responding for the past two years to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 “This health system is a model for others, and it’s because of the people,” Damon said. “They are committed to each other and committed to the community. It has been a true privilege to be able to serve them and ChristianaCare as board chair these past five years.”

Foutrakis has been a board member since 2017. During his time on the Board, he has chaired the Quality & Safety Committee and served on many other committees. He is Director of Market Access Strategy for W.L. Gore & Associates, where he is worked for 27 years on a wide range of medical products. The holder of five U.S. patents, Foutrakis is also an invited lecturer at several universities.

Patrick Carroll, M.D., and Alexandra von Plato are also joining ChristianaCare’s system board.

Dr. Carroll is Chief Medical Officer at Vida Health. After starting his career as a primary care physician, Dr. Carroll has served in leadership roles at a variety of health systems, group practices and medical companies in the Midwest, Southwest and New England.

Von Plato is the CEO of Publicis Health. She is a leader in shaping the role of digital media and new technology in health care communications. Her award-winning work for some of the nation’s largest health and wellness companies has positioned von Plato as an expert in numerous health care-related fields, including creative innovation and marketing.

The ChristianaCare Health Services Board added new members Pawan Rastogi, M.D., Barry Niziolek, Julie Topkis Nason and Tom Moore. David Stratton, Esq. and Lolita Lopez continue to serve as chair and vice chair, respectively.
