Sharon Anderson, RN, MS, FACHE
Chief Virtual Health Officer
Sharon L. Anderson, RN, MS, FACHE, is the Chief Virtual Health Officer and was the first president of CareVio, ChristianaCare's award-winning population health program.
Under her leadership, ChristianaCare has achieved national recognition related to several patient safety and quality initiatives, including the Joint Commission’s prestigious Ernest A. Codman Award and Top rankings in Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Score.
Begun in 2012, the innovative CareVio population health program monitors chronic disease patients at home with the use of audio, video, secure texting and biometric devices. It uses a prediction analytics engine to enable the care management team to effectively coordinate care, identify at-risk populations and prevent the need for hospitalizations and emergency department visits through preventive care and home care. CareVio features a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, social workers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and care coordinators who work as care managers for patients in partnership with community providers.
CareVio is responsible for the care management services of more than 110,000 lives through state and private contracts. In 2017 the program earned the John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award, the nation’s preeminent recognition for quality and safety in health care. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, CareVio has monitored more than 10,000 patients, with nearly 5,000 video visits and 900,000 follow-up text messages.
Anderson now leads the ChristianaCare Center for Virtual Health, which provides comprehensive virtual care services.
