Aubre Stevens Honored with DAISY Award
Aubre Stevens, BS, ADN, RN, CEN, with the Christiana Hospital Emergency Department, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses in January 2021.
The DAISY nomination is from the daughter of a patient. “I’d like to express my eternal gratitude to the Christiana Hospital Emergency Department nurse who gave my family a most treasured gift – 15 more days with Mom,” she wrote in her nomination.
The patient experienced a devastating cardiac event shortly after arrival at Christiana Hospital. Stevens quickly jumped into action and performed life-saving CPR that gave the family more time together. “I have come to realize [those extra days] were remarkably imperative for all of us,” the daughter said.
“It allowed invaluable Facetime chats, texts and calls, a couple in-hospital visits (also thanks to the amazing MICU and SICU nurses), the ability to drop things off for her that would make her more comfortable and happy, and finally and most importantly, the chance for her to come home one last time.
“The ED nurse will always hold a place in my heart.”
The Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare selects DAISY Award recipients using an anonymous process based on nominations from patients, families and all members of the ChristianaCare team. All nurses — inpatient, outpatient and ChristianaCare HomeHealth — are eligible.
