Virginia U. Collier, M.D., FACP, the Hugh R. Sharp Jr. Chair of the Department of Medicine at Christiana Care, joins a select group of doctors elected to Mastership of the American College of Physicians (ACP). She is the fourth Master ever elected by ACP from the state of Delaware.
Christiana Care hosted White House Deputy Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy David K. Mineta, MSW, and colleague June Sivilli on Tuesday, Sept. 20, to take a closer look at the Christiana Care Department of Medicine’s successful substance abuse intervention program, Project Engage. Led by Department of Medicine’s Terry Horton, M.D., chief, of Addiction Medicine and faculty in General Internal Medicine, Project Engage is a screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment program that has generated compelling results. Christiana Care Health System physician Matthew Burday, D.O., FACP, is the recipient of the 2011 Herbert S. Waxman Award for Outstanding Medical Student Educator from the American College of Physicians (ACP), the largest medical-specialty organization in the United States. Dr. Burday received the award for his instrumental role in educating medical students at Christiana Care for more than 20 years. The Medical-Dental Staff of Christiana Care Health System honored cardiothoracic surgeon Raymond A. Blackwell, M.D., with its Commendation for Excellence on Oct. 29 at Deerfield Golf & Tennis Club. The Medical-Dental Staff, comprising more than 1,400 members credentialed by Christiana Care Health System, meets annually in the fall and traditionally awards the Commendation after the meeting. The Commendation for Excellence recognizes a physician for making exceptional contributions to the community through clinical, scholarly, educational or humanitarian activities. For outstanding work in fighting chronic kidney disease, Christiana Care’s Kidney Transplant Program has earned the National Kidney Foundation’s Bruce Zakheim, M.D., Memorial Legislative and Advocacy Award. The National Kidney Foundation serving the Delaware Valley (NKFDV) presented the award on March 6 at the 26th annual Kidney Ball in Philadelphia.
