In memory of their father, siblings raise $49,000 for cancer research

Bruce Boman, M.D., Ph.D., MSPH, medical director, Cancer Genetics and Stem Cell Biology, and Nicholas J. Petrelli, M.D., Bank of America-endowed medical director of the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, accept a $49,000 donation from siblings Brandon and Alicia Lewandowski. The donation will support translational cancer research at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center.

Sister and brother Alicia and Brandon Lewandowski, founders of the non-profit organization Kids Kickin’ Cancer, presented a check for $49,000 benefiting the Center for Translational Cancer Research at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center.

The check represents proceeds from two 2012 events: a 5K race and a golf tournament.

The Lewandowskis founded Kids Kickin’ Cancer as teens in 2007 in memory of their “coach” and dad, Michael Lewandowski, who died of cancer in 2006. To date, Kids Kickin’ cancer has raised $133,000 for the Center for Translational Cancer Research.

Alicia and Brandon received the 2009 Youth in Philanthropy Award presented by Gov. Jack Markell for their work with Kids Kickin’ Cancer.
