Gov. Jack Markell proclaimed that “May is Mammography Month” in Delaware during a news conference Friday, May 18th at Christiana Care’s Helen F. Graham Cancer Center.

Markell was joined by Vicky Cooke, executive director of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Nicholas Petrelli, medical director of the Graham Cancer Center, and Gary Ferguson, chief operating officer of Christiana Care Health System.

“May is Mammography Month” was created by the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition in May 2008 as an initiative to remind women in Delaware to schedule their annual mammography screening. The month of Mothers’ Day in May is considered the perfect time to encourage and remind our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, relatives, co-workers and friends to schedule a mammogram.
