Albert A. Rizzo, M.D., chief of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine section at Christiana Care Health System, was named the national volunteer chair of the American Lung Association board of directors. He will serve a one-year term in the position and work closely with the American Lung Association’s president and CEO Charles D. Connor to advance the organization’s mission of saving lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.

“Dr. Rizzo is a talented physician and a committed volunteer who is dedicated to improving the lung health of all Americans,” said Connor. “He is a natural leader who sets an example through his work and continues to inspire Lung Association staff and those we serve.”

Prior to his election to the American Lung Association national board of directors, Dr. Rizzo served a two-year term as the speaker of its nationwide assembly. He has served as a volunteer for the American Lung Association in Delaware for more than 20 years, including two terms as the state chapter chair of the board of directors.

Dr. Rizzo’s efforts were integral to establishing the Delaware Asthma Consortium, which now includes more than 60 members from the Delaware community, pharmaceutical companies and businesses to address management and care of individuals with asthma.
