Gerard Fulda, M.D., has been appointed by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services to serve as chair of the Scientific Knowledge Subcommittee for the Organ Donor Management Task Force. Sponsored by HHS, the Health Resources and Services Administration and the Organ Donation and Transplantation Alliance, the task force addresses opportunities to improve outcomes of and decrease variation in donor management practices.

The task force will advise the sponsoring agencies about:

  • Gaps between what is known and what needs to be known about hemodynamic management of the deceased organ donor.
  • The assets or capabilities needed to improve the quality and quantity of research to better identify optimal organ donor management procedures or protocols.
  • Research studies that should be considered that would have the greatest impact on organ donation outcomes.
  • Research studies that can be conducted at the DSA level, regional level or national level.
